The history of the Mitsui Group is a fascinating saga extending back well over three centuries, when Takatoshi Mitsui founded a kimono store in Edo, a city which later developed and expanded to become present day Tokyo.
Over the years, Mitsui expanded to become a major commercial enterprise trading in Japan and overseas.
Today Mitsui & Co. Ltd. is Japan's largest sogo shosha, or General Trading Company.  The Group is made up of a large number of Japan's leading companies. Its diverse international business functions are a prime motivating force in Japan's economic advancement, also contributing to the expansion of the global economy.

It, presently, has more than 39,864 staff,
